2020 Letter to our Parishioners

From the desk of Fr. Christopher Wallace, Pastor

“May God, who has been pleased to unite many tongues in the profession of the one faith, Give you perseverance in that same faith; And by believing, may you journey from hope to clear vision.” -From the Roman Missal, blessing for the Mass of the Holy Spirit

I’ve worn glasses since I was in second grade. I even actually like them; I’ve never even tried to wear contact lenses. When we hear the commonly known expression of “20/20” vision, it means that we have perfect sight in our eyes. This new year of “2020” is a great invitation to invite the Holy Spirit to bless us with a new and better spiritual vision.

I think it’s important to receive a mailing from the parish that is not about money. Our Catholic Christian faith is the most important gift we have been given by God. I love the story of St. Peter’s words of healing to the crippled beggar the morning after Pentecost:

Peter said, “I have neither silver nor gold, but what I do have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, rise and walk.”(Acts 3:6)

What we possess as Catholic Christians is the “pearl of great price”- knowledge of the One True God who freely shares with us the abundance of His saving love. The Faith, the Sacraments, and the Spiritual Gifts which the Lord shares with us will bring us to eternal life and never-ending happiness in God’s heavenly kingdom. These gifts are offered to all peoples, and unite us in a bond of charity which is stronger than flesh and blood.

One of the most important things we can do to connect with the King of Kings and expand His Kingdom is to pray.  Prayer is essential and fundamental for all of us. Every grace comes to us through prayer. God loves you, and wants to spend time with you. God knows the needs of our lives; the needs of our parish; indeed the needs of the world.  God wants each of us to seek Him in prayer with loving trust and confidence in His divine mercy. Jesus promises us: “Ask and you shall receive; seek and you shall find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)

Let us together set a common goal: that the year 2020 will be the year where our prayer life becomes better than ever!  On the back of this sheet lists some daily prayers we can all say for evangelization, unity, and joy to fill our All Saints Parish family. Let us also lift up in our prayer our newly assigned priest Fr. Marcos Portillo and the many new parishioners that God will send to us. Be assured of my love and prayers for all you!

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Fr. Chris
